Wonderwood Connector Bridge Post-Tensioning Tendons Investigations and Phase 1 Repair

6/4/2019 - 10:30am-11:20am

Wonderwood Connector Bridge (Bridge # 720677) is a three-span continuous spliced post-tensioned girder with 196’ – 250’ – 196’ span configuration located over Inter-Coastal Waterway in Jacksonville, Florida on Route 116 Wonderwood Drive. The bridge consisted of eight girders with 90’- 8” carrying a total of four lanes of traffic plus shoulders. Non-invasive and limited invasive tests of the grouted internal post-tensioned tendons were conducted. From the tests, grout voids, soft grout and tendon corrosion were discovered. This is one of the most difficult repairs ever conducted by FDOT in order to address the durability problems. New technology in being implemented, including planning to install external tendons as additional strengthening of the bridge. This presentation will be presented into two sessions of 45 minutes back to back.
