This presentation discusses the lessons learned during the preparation, letting, and construction of FIN 443310-1-52-01, Contract T2934. A brief overview of Ultra High Performance Concrete properties, batching, and placement requirements will be provided. The presentation will provide a background of the Red Bay Branch Bridge and the reasoning behind the project’s development reasoning will be explained. It will outline the decision-making process to utilize UHPC vs conventional concrete and post tensioning methods. Following this, the challenges encountered during the design, review, construction, and acceptance phases of the project will be discussed. Emphasis will be placed on how these challenges were addressed, and how the lessons learned will impact the upcoming SR 21 projects which have similar scope and construction requirements.
