Post-Installed Anchors Connection to Concrete - (10/2025)
10/29/2025 - 9:35am-10:30am
Over the past 25 years, the design of post-installed reinforcing bar anchorage and steel fasteners has advanced significantly. Ten years before the 2006 Boston Tunnel ceiling panel anchorage failure, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) had already funded research and specification development on the behavior of concrete anchors under both sustained and transient loads. More recently, Dr. Suksawang of the Florida Institute of Technology (FIT), working in close collaboration with FDOT’s Structures Research Center (SRC), completed the projects “Confinement Effect of Metal Railing Narrow Baseplates on Adhesive and Screw Anchor Breakout Resistance.” The results of this study supported updates to the SDG design specifications, providing more guidance for both adhesive and screw anchor applications. This presentation will introduce how Dr. Suksawang’s project was conducted and completed, highlighting both the challenges encountered and the successes achieved through the partnership with the SRC.
