FDOT Research Projects BE535 and BEB13 helped develop new criteria to define straight steel I-girder units by a case number determined by skew angle, skew index, and cross-frame configuration. Case numbers then define the required method of analysis, classification of cross frame members (primary or secondary), cross-frame connection type (bearing or slip critical), and cross-frame requirements for bridge widenings (load rating and strengthening). Additionally, a procedure is included regarding the calculation of ADTT(SL).
