Meeting the Challenge of Rail Safety in Florida *

11/7/2024 - 2:00pm-2:50pm

Meeting current Florida needs has rail safety implications for communities. With population surging and congestion relief continuing to be a critical need, new and faster passenger rail services are coming to fruition and communities are interested in increasing development around transportation opportunities. These trends require a change in perspective on how railroads and federal, state, and local agencies address rail safety. This includes increased awareness of education, enforcement, engineering, and emergency response solutions, as well as how to better align conversations across rail, highway, traffic ops, and safety stakeholders. FDOT will be sharing a summary of current challenges and initiatives to spur discussion.
