Intersection Control Evaluation (ICE) Implementation in Florida * - (11/24)
11/7/2024 - 1:00pm-1:50pm
Intersection Control Evaluation (ICE) is a data-driven process that entails a stagewise framework to evaluate and screen different intersection alternatives using performance-based metrics. FDOT has developed the ICE procedure for a range of activities to support objective evaluations of intersection control types or control strategies. The goal of ICE is to better inform the FDOT’s decision-making to identify and select an intersection control strategy meeting the project’s purpose and need, fitting the intersection location’s context classification, providing efficient and safe travel facilities for all road users, and reflecting the overall best value. The symposium presentation will focus on the innovative intersection designs and principles that the FDOT ICE Tools can be used for to quantitatively evaluate the operational and safety benefits, the ICE tools and methodologies that we have expanded upon since its adoption in 2018, and the statewide implementation of the ICE program. Currently, more than more than 200 intersections have been evaluated using the ICE process which can be viewed in eTraffic (arcgis.com).
