Cultural Resource Mitigation/Minimization in Transportation Projects: Best Practices

This presentation outlines best practices for mitigation of transportation project effects to historic resources under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) and Chapter 267, Florida Statutes. It emphasizes proactive communication with the State Historic Preservation Officer (SHPO), cooperation with cultural resource consultants, and innovative and creative thinking for effective mitigation. It highlights successful projects from District 2 that involved sensitive cultural resources including the San Marco Historic Knee Wall relocation and the historic Main Street Bridge-Culvert over Hogans Creek (Florida Preservation Award 2018).
